Management of Major Depressive Disorder in Adults Algorithms

Description

These algorithms are derived from the evidence-based clinical practice guideline, Management of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in Adults, developed by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense (VA/DoD). The guideline is intended to identify the critical decision points in management of patients with depressive conditions, such as assessment, empirically supported psychotherapies and pharmacological therapies, non-major depressive disorder conditions deserving consultation, patient education, and follow-up treatment.

Recommendations are made with regard to establishing diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up treatment. The three modules include:

  • Module A: intended for clinicians in the primary care setting and outpatient mental health specialty clinics
  • Module B: intended for clinicians in an outpatient mental health setting
  • Module C: intended for clinicians in the inpatient mental health setting
