HCUPnet

Description

This interactive tool is used for identifying, tracking, analyzing, and comparing statistics on hospital care. It is part of the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). With HCUPnet, users have easy access to national statistics and trends and selected State statistics about hospital stays. HCUPnet generates statistics using data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS), the Kids’ Inpatient Database (KID), and State Inpatient Databases (SID) for States that participate. HCUPnet also provides statistics based on the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Quality Indicators, which have been applied to the HCUP Nationwide Inpatient Sample. These statistics provide insight into potential quality of care problems.

HCUP data are used for research on:

  • Hospital utilization
  • Access
  • Charges
  • Quality
  • Outcomes
    • Hospital length of stay (mean or median)
    • Total charges (mean or median)
