Genetic Counseling Cultural and Linguistic Competence Toolkit


The Genetic Counseling Cultural and Linguistic Competence Toolkit (GCCCT) is a resource portal that provides information for genetic counselors, genetic counseling training programs and students, health care providers, and members of the general public. Its purpose is to improve the delivery of culturally responsive, client-centered genetic counseling to diverse populations and to reduce health disparities.

The toolkit contains a variety of materials, including:

  • Background information about genetic counseling, including legislation and national standards
  • Links to government and institutional online resources
  • Resources for examining personal biases and how to manage them more effectively
  • Clinical and teaching tools applicable to genetic counseling practice
  • Links to and reviews of various instructional resources
  • Learning modules approved for continuing education units (CEU)
