AMA Weigh What Matters


This smartphone application (app), part of the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Healthier Life Steps ™ initiative, encourages adult patients to work with their physicians to maintain a healthy weight, eat better, and increase physical activity. The app also calculates a user’s body mass index (BMI) score and provides a mechanism to view progress reports and e-mail them to their physician.

Key features allow users to:

  • Establish a weight goal
  • Establish daily healthy eating goals
  • Establish daily physical activity goals (in minutes and/or steps taken)
  • Track their progress toward meeting their goals
  • Utilize optional daily reminders to help keep them on track
  • Determine their BMI score based on current weight
  • View monthly and yearly graph reports showing their progress
  • Send reports to their physician or others as desired
