Addressing Language Access Issues in Your Practice: A Toolkit for Physicians and Their Staff Members

Description

This toolkit, for physicians and health care teams, presents a systems approach to redesigning an office practice to provide the highest quality care possible to patients who speak limited English. It provides a guide to assist in taking small steps toward a complete language access system. The guide includes many options and resources so that practices can tailor their language access program to their particular needs.

This guide is organized around three steps that will help physicians and their staff organize and implement a solution to potential language barriers in their practice:

  • Step 1: Shows practices how to identify their patient population, both current and potential
  • Step 2: Helps locate available resources and measure the pros and cons of each
  • Step 3: Includes implementation strategies for the “right mix” of services for their practice and presents a case study showing how one office put the tools into practice
