Five Steps to Safer Dental Care


This brochure offers suggestions to help patients improve the quality of their dental care.

This brochure presents the following five steps:

  1. Be an active member of your dental care team
  2. Tell your dentist about medical problems, medications, allergies, or bad reactions you have had in the past
  3. Talk openly with your dentist and the dental team about your care and treatment choices
  4. Make sure that when you need dental care, you and the dentist agree on what is going to be done during the appointment
  5. Know what you should and should not do at home, how to take your medicines, and when to return for followup care
