Fall TIPS (Tailoring Interventions for Patient Safety)

Description

This Web site provides information and tools related to a 2-year study that is currently underway in the Partners HealthCare System (PHS), entitled Fall TIPS (Tailoring Interventions for Patient Safety). The study aims to prevent patient falls in hospitals by identifying better ways to communicate information about a patient's risk for falls, and working with patients and family members to put a plan in place to prevent falls.

This multiphase study will result in the development of a fall prevention toolkit that will be available to patients, family members, and health care professionals.

The following tools are currently available on the Web site:
  • PHS Morse Fall Scale competency manual: A fall risk assessment tool that predicts the likelihood that a patient will fall
  • Fall prevention behavior scale: A survey instrument used to collect information regarding actions to prevent patient falls
  • Fall prevention self-efficacy scale: A survey instrument used to collect information regarding beliefs about confidence to prevent patient falls
