2006 National Healthcare Quality Report

Description

The 2006 National Healthcare Quality Report (NHQR) is a comprehensive national overview of quality of health care in the United States. The 2006 report is organized around four dimensions of quality of care—effectiveness, patient safety, timeliness, and patient centeredness. Those dimensions cover the four stages of care from the patient perspective (staying healthy, getting better, living with illness and disability, and coping with the end of life).

The 2006 NHQR addresses the following clinical conditions:
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • End stage renal disease
  • Heart disease
  • HIV and AIDS
  • Maternal and child health
  • Mental health and substance abuse
  • Respiratory diseases
It also presents data on nursing home, home health, and hospice care.

The NHQR is complemented by its companion report, the National Healthcare Disparities Report (NHDR), a comprehensive national overview of disparities in access to and quality of health care among racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups, as well as among subpopulations such as children and the elderly.
