Dr. Pawlson is executive vice president of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). In that role, he provides oversight to NCQA’s activities in research,
measures development, and corporate relations. He is also responsible for providing leadership in the evaluation of quality improvement activities for inclusion in
NCQA’s Quality Profiles. Prior to joining NCQA, Dr. Pawlson was senior associate vice president for health affairs and medical director for quality and utilization
management for the faculty practice at the George Washington University Medical Center. He was also a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow and health policy aide
on the staff of Senator George Mitchell (D-Maine).
Dr. Pawlson’s areas of policy and research include health professions education, health policy, health services, and health care financing, especially as they relate to
primary care and to the care of older persons. Dr. Pawlson has over 100 publications in books, proceedings, and peer-reviewed journals. He has served on the editorial
board of numerous publications and on review panels for various foundations and agencies, currently serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Managed
Care and the American Journal of Medical Quality, and is a board member of the American Board of Medical Quality.
